There’s an old oak (known as “TV-Eken”) standing in central Stockholm, which is at least 1 000 years old. In other words, it stood there while Sweden was still a Heathen nation. But not for much longer. Authorities claims that fungus have made the old oak rot, and made it too fragile, and that its branches might fall down on people passing by, or at the roads on each side of it.
Experts on oaks and trees in general however, says this is complete nonsense, and that the oak could survive for a long time ahead (maybe even hundreds of years). Some point out that the authorities wish to cut down the oak just to make way for tram lines which are about to be built right through this area.Some people are protesting, but as it’s a matter of mostly “old folks”, the tree will probably fall just as announced. So farewell, to a wise old heathen friend.
